RESILIENCE PHYSICAL THERAPY AND WELLNESS, LLC
Recover What Moves You
At Resilience Physical Therapy, care begins with understanding what is driving your symptoms and determining a practical path forward. Each session is one-on-one, focused, and unrushed — with time taken to bring clarity to your movement and your goals.
This is not a high-volume clinic model. Care is collaborative and structured, built around thoughtful assessment and steady progression rather than short-term fixes. The aim is not just relief, but restoring clarity and confidence in how you move.

Our Approach to Care
-
Start with clarity. Every patient begins with a comprehensive evaluation to understand what is driving symptoms and how they are affecting your function.
-
Work from a plan. Care is guided by clear goals and steady progression, with adjustments made as your symptoms and function change.
-
One-on-one, every visit. Sessions are focused and unrushed, allowing time to assess, adjust, and move forward deliberately.

WHO WE ARE
Jason Burtchell, PT, OCS, Cred. MDT
I’ve spent the past 25 years helping people recover from injury and make sense of problems that limit how they move and live. Over time I’ve learned that meaningful improvement rarely comes from rushed visits or generic exercise programs. It comes from careful assessment, thoughtful progression, and helping people understand what is actually driving their symptoms.
That perspective shaped the model behind Resilience Physical Therapy. I work one-on-one with every patient, taking the time to understand the full picture and develop a clear path forward. My role is not just to provide treatment, but to help people understand what is happening in their body and regain confidence in how they move.I work with a wide range of individuals — from athletes and recreational lifters to people who simply want to stay active and capable as they get older. Whether the goal is returning to sport, getting back to work, or feeling comfortable moving through daily life again, the focus is the same: helping people move forward with clarity and control.Much of my work now centers on helping people stay active and capable over the long term, not just recover from injury when something goes wrong.
I hold both McKenzie Certification (Cert. MDT) and Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) designation and am one of a small number of clinicians in Maine with both credentials. Earlier in my career I also worked as both a personal and group movement coach, experience that continues to shape how I think about the transition from rehabilitation back to real-world activity.
Outside the clinic, I remain an active student of movement and enjoy strength training, hiking, biking, and spending time outdoors.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT CONDITIONS DO YOU TREAT?
With over 20 years of experience we are happy to offer high quality care for a wide variety of conditions including neck pain, back pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, foot and ankle pain, and jaw pain (often called TMD or TMJ dysfunction). We have helped many patients come back after surgeries of all types including ACL repair, rotator cuff repair and spinal surgeries. We also have extensive experience treating chronic pain, deconditioning, balance disorders (including fall risk management), and vertigo. Our treatment focuses on helping you get back what is important to you: gardening, sledding with your kids or grandkids, going after a new personal best back squat, or returning to sport.
WHAT DOES BOARD CERTIFIED IN ORTHOPEDICS MEAN? DO ALL PHYSICAL THERAPISTS HAVE THIS DESIGNATION?
Physical Therapists who have taken the American Board of Physical Therapies examination in orthopedics and successfully passed it are Board Certified in Orthopedics, and have the letters "OCS" (for Orthopedic Clinical Specialist) listed as part of their title. Not all physical therapists carry this designation- in fact, according to the most recently available statistics, only roughly 6% of physical therapists in the US carry this designation. Jason felt that it was important to pursue the OCS certification as a way of demonstrating the dedication to his client's care that Resilience Physical Therapy strives to provide.
WHAT TYPES OF HEALTH INSURANCE DO YOU ACCEPT?
Resilience works with Medicare as a non-participating provider and with work-related injury claims (Workers’ Compensation). We are otherwise an out-of-network practice.
Operating out-of-network allows care to be structured around clinical judgment and patient goals rather than insurance-driven visit limits. This structure allows care to focus on thoughtful assessment and appropriate progression, without being constrained by visit authorizations or preset timelines.
Payment is collected at the time of service, and documentation is provided for patients who wish to pursue potential reimbursement through out-of-network benefits.
For additional details, please refer to the Out-of-Network FAQ on this page.
DO I NEED A DOCTOR’S REFERRAL?
With the exception of Medicare, no you do not need a referral to see a physical therapist in the state of Maine. Some insurances do require a referral for reimbursement for out of network visits. Check with your insurance for further details. We have created a specific FAQ sheet for Out of Network information.
